Outline for weekend workshop for Skye Arts Group January, 2015.
Towards an Ecology of Drawing
In science, Ecology refers broadly to the study and analysis of interactions among organisms and their environment
During this weekend workshop we explored, adopted and adapted approaches to our immediate environment that might foster creative and immersive engagement with our surroundings.
We considered:
How we navigate place. Perceiving and responding to environmental stimuli. Complexity and interconnectedness.
Using non-figurative, exploratory approaches to drawing, responded, recorded and interpreted our location. Emphasis was on process and material experimentation through drawing. From this we explored the potential suggested by drawings for a collaborative ‘visual mapping’ of place.
